Rochester, NY – The Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association (RTMA) Tuesday attended a press conference at the Finger Lakes Workforce Development Center (FWD Center) located at Monroe Community College’s downtown Rochester Campus. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer announced the NY SMART I-Corridor Tech Hub was awarded $40 million to start Phase 1 of strengthening the region’s semiconductor supply chain.
The RTMA is part of a consortium of the Tech Hub through ROC2025, Buffalo Niagara Partnership, and CenterState CEO NY which is utilizing existing, proven workforce development programs to strengthen the local workforce in the semiconductor space.
“RTMA Membership will see improved training models as well as the possibility of shifting a percentage of our workforce to handle the increasing need to support the semiconductor industry’s growth in our region,” said RTMA Executive Director Bob Coyne. “This is a direct result of the United States Government recognizing that relying on foreign partners for our electronic supplies is not a healthy and sustainable long-term investment – and that bringing manufacturing back to the USA is needed.”
The RTMA will continue to keep its membership posted on the progress that will be made utilizing this funding which is provided by the CHIPS Act.
