STUDENTS ACROSS MONROE COUNTY TO BEGIN YOUTH APPRENTICESHIPS THROUGH THE FINGER LAKES YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
Spencerport – Dozens of students from across the westside of Monroe County and the city of Rochester attended the Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program’s “Signing Day” celebration on Wednesday, March 3, 2022 at the Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES in Spencerport. These students are starting their careers in advanced manufacturing through FLYAP.
More than 30 students from BOCES 2 and over 10 students from Edison Career & Technology High School will be participating in job shadows and/or paid co-ops at dozens of manufacturing companies across Monroe County. These high school juniors and seniors are studying several advanced manufacturing trades; including CNC Machining, Precision Optics, Welding and more!
FLYAP works in conjunction with every BOCES and Career and Technical Education high school throughout the nine county greater Rochester and Finger Lakes Region. In addition to the Monroe County event, nearly four dozen students have already signed on with nearly 20 companies for their youth apprenticeships in the Genesee Valley and Finger Lakes regions -with more to come over the next several weeks.
The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program is in its third year and has placed dozens of recent high school graduates in careers in advanced manufacturing throughout the region; including several whom are now in the New York State Registered Apprenticeship Program. You can find out more on FLYAP at www.FLYAP.org.
The next “Signing Day” will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at East High School in Rochester. For more on FLYAP, contact RTMA Director of Workforce Development Richard T. Turner at (585) 510-6557 or email rturner@rtma.org.
