5th Straight FLYAP Signing Day for Monroe One BOCES

Fairport – Monroe One BOCES hosted the fifth annual Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program (FLYAP) “Signing Day” for students, families and business partners at the school’s Automated Manufacturing & Machining Classroom. Students signed up for paid co-ops and job shadows at advanced manufacturing companies in Monroe, Ontario and Wayne counties.

“We are proud to again partner with Monroe One BOCES for the 5th straight year of the Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program,” said Monroe Community College Apprenticeship Manager Mike Smith. “The program is providing the next generation of manufacturing professionals on-the-job experience which will better prepare them for the workforce and higher education.”

Students will now be able to combine their classroom and lab training at the Eastern Monroe Career Center at Monroe One BOCES and learn from machinists, tool makers and precision optics technicians at local advanced manufacturing companies. In addition to the classroom and on-the-job experience, many students receive dual enrollment college credits at no cost through MCC.

The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program was established by the Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association (RTMA) in partnership with MCC. Since its creation in 2018, more than 650 students have accepted paid co-ops and/or job shadows at nearly 150 companies throughout the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region since its inception in 2018. FLYAP is the only advanced manufacturing youth apprenticeship program in New York State.
