RTMA Receives Apprenticeship Ambassador Distinction from the United States Department of Labor
Rochester – The Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association (RTMA) announced it has received the distinction of Apprenticeship Ambassador from the United States Department of Labor (US DOL). The Association was recognized for its commitment to modernizing, diversifying and expanding Registered Apprenticeships in the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region.
“The RTMA is proud to have the largest group-sponsored Registered Apprenticeship program for advanced manufacturing in New York State,” said RTMA Executive Director Bob Coyne. “As an Apprenticeship Ambassador, we will continue to assist the local advanced manufacturing community with developing programs designed to recruit, retain and train the next generation of skilled professionals.”
The RTMA is the region’s sponsor for New York State Registered Apprenticeships in advanced manufacturing. The Association partners with more than 30 signatory companies to enroll apprentices in more than 15 manufacturing trades. To date, the RTMA has graduated nearly 40 Journey Workers and registered more than 200 apprentices across the nine-county region.
The US DOL’s Apprenticeship Ambassador initiative is designed to create a nationwide network of employers, industry associations, workforce intermediaries and other stakeholders to serve as champions for expanding and diversifying Registered Apprenticeship. As an Apprenticeship Ambassador, the RTMA will continue to expand awareness of the benefits of apprenticeship programs by increasing access and support for underserved and underrepresented populations.
The Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association offers many benefits to signatory companies with registered apprenticeship programs, including funding for related training and instruction, an exclusive grant for tools and materials, incentives for program expansion and more.
