Record Number of FLYAP Signees at the Mount Morris BOCES
Mount Morris, Livingston County – A record number of participants this year from the Genesee Valley BOCES – Mount Morris Campus in the Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program (FLYAP). The school hosted its third annual FLYAP “Signing Day” as ten students from the schools Metal Trades and Building Trades programs signed up for job shadows at seven local advanced manufacturing companies.
Students from the Mount Morris BOCES will learn from machinists, welders, electricians and other advanced manufacturing professionals. Throughout its five school years, the Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program has connected more than 650 students to nearly 150 companies throughout the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region; including more than 20 from the Mount Morris BOCES.
The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program was created by the Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association (RTMA) in partnership with Monroe Community College (MCC). The program is the first of its kind in New York State and is supported by the RTMA, MCC, RG&E Foundation and Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. In addition to valuable on-the-job experience, many students receive dual enrollment college credits at no cost.
