RTMA Partners with Edison Tech to Celebrate Black History Month to Promote Manufacturing

Rochester – In honor of Black History Month, the Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association (RTMA) partnered with Edison Career & Technology High School in Rochester Wednesday to host a panel discussion promoting careers, apprenticeships and training in advanced manufacturing. The event is an extension of the RTMA’s involvement in Rochester Works’ School 2 Work Youth Navigator Program, which aims to introduce students to sustainable careers after high school.

The panel included Edison Tech alumni and other professionals at local advanced manufacturing companies. More than 100 Edison Tech students attended the event to learn about future opportunities in the region’s second largest industry.

Edison Tech is one of several schools in the Rochester City School District which partners with the RTMA on its youth-oriented programs. Earlier this month, several students matched with companies for paid co-ops or job shadows as part of Edison’s involvement in the Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program. Last fall, dozens of Edison students attended the 3rd annual ROC With Your Hands career exploration event.

The RTMA promotes manufacturing innovation in the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region by partnering with industry, academia and government. The Association’s focus on workforce development and apprenticeship programs regularly reaches out to diverse populations.
