RTMA Secures Over $30,000 in Incentive Funding for Local Apprenticeship Companies
Jobs for the Future Grant Awards Companies for Hiring Young Adults
Rochester – The Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association (RTMA) in conjunction with the New York State Manufacturers Alliance Intermediary Partnership (MIAP) has secured more than $30,000 in incentive funding for local manufacturing companies that offer apprenticeships in advanced manufacturing. The RTMA acts as an intermediary on behalf of advanced manufacturing businesses in the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region to assist them in establishing a New York State Registered Apprenticeship Program.
Through the MIAP partnership, the RTMA has distributed more than $30,000 in funds from a grant from Jobs for the Future (JFF). JFF awarded five local manufacturing companies up to $1,500 for each youth apprentice under the age of 21 and apprentices from underserved communities. A pair of small CNC machining shops each in the city of Rochester each received $3,000; a small automation business in Spencerport received $7,500; a food processing company in Genesee County received $3,000; and a large mechatronics business in Rochester received more than $14,000 in JFF funds.
The incentive funds will be utilized to provide supportive services for current and future local apprentices. Participating companies will use the funds for additional classroom and/or online training, tools and supplies for apprentices and other costs associated with on-the-job training. Another round of Jobs for the Future funding is expected later this year.
