5th Annual FLYAP Signing Day for Edison Tech
Rochester, NY – The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program (FLYAP) held its annual “Signing Day” for students at Edison Tech High School in the city of Rochester. Several students were matched with Rochester advanced manufacturing companies for either a paid co-op or unpaid job shadow. Edison Tech has been a FLYAP school since the program’s inception in 2018.
“The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program is excited to again work with the team at Edison Tech on another successful year,” said Rich Turner, RTMA Director of Workforce Development. “These students will now begin their advanced manufacturing careers through a series of job shadows and paid co-ops at local companies – most of which are in walking distance of campus. Thanks to all who are giving our youth this one-of-a-kind opportunity.”
The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program was created by the Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association (RTMA) in partnership with Monroe Community College (MCC). The program is the first of its kind in New York State and is supported by the RTMA, MCC, RG&E Foundation and Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation.
In its fifth school year, FLYAP has connected more than 650 students to nearly 150 businesses throughout the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region. FLYAP students have also received credit for more than 500 college classes at no cost to them, their schools or their families.
